There are tons of fashion inspiration all around us. You can find it on fashion blogs, in magazines, celebrities, Pinterest, or even in nature. Color combos and textures are everywhere, you just have to think outside the box a little bit.
One of my favorite things to do is take a look that I love and interepret it into something that works for me. Take this look for example.
I love the idea of graphic black and white pants with the pop of the yellow blazer. Even though I don't have awesome pants like this, I have a pair of floral black and white pants to substitute and a yellow blazer. I could also try this idea with my
graphic print skirt or my
black and white polka dot pants.
Colors - I love the idea of this outfit with the green bottoms and purple shirt.
I don't have green wide legged pants and enough sass to wear a cute headscarf, but I do have a green skirt and I also have green denim pants. I have a few purple tops, so I just used the color combo as inspiration and made it work with what I already had in my closet.
Or you could pretty much re-create a look if you already own similar pieces.
Since I own a denim shirt and red dress pants, I recreated this outfit by using what I already had in my closet. Some of the finishing pieces are the brown belt and brown shoes. This looks like a LV bag (something I don't own), and wish it was in my closet but it's definitely out of my price range!
These all are great tools that I have learned over the years and especially since blogging. Being aware of what's already in my closet and finding inspiration and utilizing what I already have is important to me.
It's so easy to get caught up in buying something because you see someone else has it (I am guilty of it myself), but unless I have a money tree that starts growing in my backyard, I gotta work with what I have sometimes.
Now don't get me wrong, I still purchase things if they are on my wishlist (that I have had since November) or within my budget, but I have really been trying to make an effort in being more aware of what goes into my closet. It's also kind of fun to challenge myself to work with I have and see what I can come up with.
How do you feel about using fashion inspiration and making it your own? Do you like to think outside the box and challenge yourself to use what's in your closet? Do you have any advice when using inspiration to make it your own?
